Building Strength Through Physical Therapy

When you think about strengthening you might think about weight lifting, CrossFit, or something similar. However, Physical Therapy strengthening tends to serve a slightly different purpose. A critical purpose in strengthening the muscles surrounding an injury or surgery is "load management". In order to perform the exercises, stretches, and other various treatments patients need in order to recover, there needs to be a good foundation in place. If there is a weakness within a certain area of the body, that weak link could limit or even prohibit recovery. It's the PT's job to analyze that potential weakness and alter their approach based on that assessment. No two people are the same, so taking an individualized approach to each person's strength is always a requirement!
